My love of nature inspires unique and interesting
works of art made on a scroll saw. My primary canvas is moose antler and
the occasional piece of unique wood. Antler is such a natural
media to work with that one can almost feel its energy. My goal in
my art is to allow one to escape into the piece, if only for a moment,
and take them to a place they may have been or wish to be, as I do while
experiencing the joy of their creation. I feel this type of art
brings a little bit of the outside, inside, and allows ones imagination
to take over. I have done commissioned pieces that have a much
more special meaning to the owner. Commissions allow me the joy of
tapping into someone else's artistic vision and creating a tactile image
of their art. I am the current chairman of the Northeastern
Woodworkers Scroll Saw Guild and give scroll saw presentations and
instruction throughout the Capital Region. |

Richard R. Jones
Kattskill Bay, NY 12844
richard@jonessculptures.com
www.jonessculptures.com |
 |
Mr. Jones started creating metal sculptures in 1971, but in 1991 he
added wood sculpting and now does more wood than metal. Mr.
Jones' metal sculptures, both indoor and outdoor, are made from
bronze, brass, steel and copper. They are brazed with silver and
vary in size from table size to wall hangings 27 feet in length.
Some sculptures are kinetic sculptures, designed to move with the
wind. His wood sculptures are created from exotic woods or
native soft and hard woods and reflect nature and birds.
Using simplistic lines and curves to reveal each bird's
characteristics, Mr. Jones' interpretive wood sculptures reflect a
negative space concept with nature and birds. His innovative
approach has won him acclaim at the Ward World Wildfowl Carving
Championships in Ocean City, MD, winning First Place - Best in Show
and Best in Category - Interpretive Wood Sculpture in both the Novice
(1992) and Intermediate Divisions (1993) and Second Place in the World
Division- Interpretive Wood Sculpture in 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2006.
He won Third Place-Interpretive Wood Sculpture-World Division in 2005
and Second Place in the Masters Division- Interpretive Wood Sculpture
2005 and 2006. In 1995, he won First Place - Best in Show and
Best in Category at the New England Wood Carving and Wildlife
Exposition in Cromwell, CT. He has, also, shown at the very
prestigious 2001 Birds in Art Show at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art
Museum, Wausau, WI. He is a recipient of the 2007 LARAC
Individual Artist Grant funded by the New York State Council on the
Arts and the Rivendell Foundation. He is a member of the Society
of Animal Artists and received the "Award of Excellence" at the 47th
Annual Art and the Animal Show in 2007 at the Wildlife Experience in
Parker, CO. His sculpture entitled "Color in the Canopy-Hyacinth
Macaw" was on the 2007-08 National Museum Tour. His piece
entitled "Dressed for Courtship" was accepted for the 48th Annual
Society of Animal Artist's 2008 Art and the Animal Show, held at the
Neville Museum, Green Bay, WI. |

Kris' love of nature and desire
to see all the details has led her to do the same thing with fabric.
She looks for pattern and movement, luster, and all the hues of color.
The fabric is her inspiration with all its minute intricacies which are
then accented with stitches, beads, stones, and other
embellishments. When building with fabric to create the shapes and
forms, Kris is working to get the fabric to get up and dance. In
addition to her two and three dimensional art, she loves teaching in her
own studio where students can take classes in fabric collage, painting
with fabric, squiggles and (reverse appliqu้ technique). |
