Seminar:  Interpretative Wood Sculpture
presented by Richard R. Jones
Richard R. Jones Richard Jones’ interpretative wood sculptures innovatively incorporate negative space to create very free flowing depictions of birds in nature.  About fifteen wood sculptures of his nationally award-winning work will be on display.

"When I look at a bird, I pick out three features that are representative of that species.  It could be a strong beak, a long tail, a vibrant color or a unique shape.  I have found that it is only necessary to carve a few traits to portray a specific bird.  it sparks the viewer's imagination making this an integral part of the sculpture.  I show the beauty and elegance and often accentuate their graceful lines and curves with vibrant color and design.  I carve to bring birds into the home and to grab the viewer's attention just as the bird does in real life.  In this way, each unique sculpture honors the bird and so does the viewer."
Northeast Feltmakers Guild Founded in 2002, the Northeast Feltmaker s Guild brings together felt artists from New England and other Northeastern states. Its mission is to help  members from novices to professionals continue to develop their artistry. In the process, the organization hopes to increase awareness of feltmaking as a fiber art.

Members are invited to attend three weekend gatherings each year, usually scheduled the first weekends of April, August and November.  At these meetings, members share our know-how and explore new directions.  Each gathering includes a short business meeting, a workshop focusing on a specific technique, and a show-and-tell session for new work.  In addition to these gatherings, members are invited to participate in regional exhibitions and can engage in the on-going conversations related to feltmaking through their Yahoo group.

Membership dues are $25 per year. To join, visit our website at www.northeastfeltmakersguild.org
