Art Instructor Patrice Jarvis-Weber presents her popular acrylic painting workshop. Participants will practice art skills exploring color, form, value and proportions, using acrylic paints to create a finished painting, inspired by one of Rockwell Kent’s landscapes.

In this full-day course, Woodcarver Dennis Wilson will introduce you to the traditional craft of chip carving-a type of wood carving in which a small knife is used to incise decorative and geometric designs into basswood or butternut. The design is created by the removal of small pieces (chips) of the wood.

Chip carving is an ancient, traditional craft. Chip carved plates, jewelry and keepsake boxes, trays, breadboards, furniture and other items make wonderful gifts and home décor with traditional motifs. Some previous carving experience is helpful but not necessary. You will learn to carve a variety of practice designs already drawn on a board. Dennis will loan each student a chip carving knife and other needed instruments for the class period.

The course will run all day 9am-4pm with a 3 hour session from 9am-noon, an hour break for lunch, then a 3-hour session from 1-4pm. Fee includes materials fee.

Fiber artist Kris Gregson Moss will lead participants in creating a wearable and unique piece of art, using hand sewing skills. They will shape and stack pieces of fabric that are backed with stiff interfacing, then embellish with beads, wire, etc. For the final touch, jewelry findings will be added. Please bring your favorite hand sewing equipment…..scissors, needles, pins, thimble, threads. You may also wish to bring some small pieces of favorite fabrics. Instructor will bring threads, beads, wire, stiff interfacing, batting, fabrics, and jewelry findings such as pin backings.
Some sewing experience necessary. Instructor will supply all other materials and additional embellishments.

Painting in watercolor can seem intimidating for many artists, but it doesn't have to be.  Striking a balance between controlling the medium while allowing the paint to do what it wants to do is key to creating watercolor paintings. Artist Diane Swanson will offer a few ways and techniques to help participants work towards that balance in a relaxed easy setting. For all artistic abilities. All materials supplied by instructor.

Artists are invited to bring in one to two pieces of their work, either completed or in process, to be constructively critiqued by their peers in a supportive, encouraging environment. This drop-in program is free and open to all artists.

Writer Nanci Vineyard will lead participants through writing exercises to achieve catharsis, using the creative art of writing to alleviate stress or trauma and facilitate moving on with energy and joy. This is a four hour workshop divided into 3 relatable segments, with a one-hour break for lunch in between. Writing will be inspired by artworks on the gallery walls, participants’ own life experience and stories, and understanding of the obstacles, the inspiration and the individual journey forward towards obtaining catharsis with creative endeavors. Participants should bring writing tools or laptops.
