LARAC members (or soon-to-be members) are invited to bring one artwork to show and share with everyone, along with something delicious to nibble on. Celebrate the light of the season with art and art lovers.

Expressive Collage with Kathy Klompas
Enjoy creating works in collage and learning new techniques in this popular workshop taught by artist Kathy Klompas. Collage is an exciting and engaging way to spontaneously build expressive art. We will fuse layers of freely painted and prepared magazine pages, a quick and simple technique that allows for a wrinkle free surface. A large choice of prepared papers, additional magazines and other ephemera will be provided, but please feel free to bring papers that inspire you. For all artistic abilities.

Feltmaking Workshop with Joy Muller-McCoola
Learn to wet felt a small vessel or pouch using a resist and wool roving. We will layout wool around a flat plastic sheet and create surface and three dimensional form simultaneously with only soap, water, and our hands. All materials supplied. For all artistic abilities.

Among Friends Peer Art Critique
Artists are invited to bring in one to two pieces of their work, either completed or in process, to be constructively critiqued by their peers in a supportive, encouraging environment.
This program is free and open to all artists, but we ask that you register in advance by emailing programs@larac.org or calling (518) 798-1144 x2.
Watercolor Workshop with Diane Swanson
Two-hour painting workshop covering watercolor techniques and tricks to help take the fear out of working in the medium. Participants will practice technique demonstrated by instructor to learn some of the magic of the medium, while working on a specific landscape scene. The instructor will work with each participant through the process, with tips on handling composition, color and brushwork. All materials supplied; for all artistic abilities.

Learn Pastel Painting with Joann Quinlivan
In this two hour pastel class, we will learn a short history of the medium and types of pastels and papers. We’ll spend some time learning the techniques of using pastels by painting an apple, and then move onto a landscape, concentrating on composition and light.

LARAC Artist Retreat at Wiawaka on Lake George
LARAC in collaboration with Wiawaka Center for Women will present a weekend-long Artists Retreat in September! Wiawaka will open their entire property for our first-ever LARAC Artist Retreat. Visual artists and writers are invited to come and stay for the weekend to refresh and restore their artistic practice, either actively creating work or in quiet introspection, inspired by Wiawaka’s beautiful setting on Lake George. You do not have to be a LARAC member to participate.
Cost: $310 person. Includes two nights stay, two breakfasts, two dinners, one lunch and access to the entire property.

There will be opportunities to socialize as a full group at mealtimes, and in the evenings with a cocktail party on the first night of stay, and a show and share on the second evening. Participation is completely optional. The retreat is for artists only (no spouses, additional family members, friends, etc…)

Play with carving on polystyrene with simple found items or learn to carve with a linoleum cutter. Experiment with relief printing to create your own multi-layered original design. Putting It Into Words; Writing Artist Statements, Bios & Resumes
This program is designed to help artists put their art practice, process and visual message into words, to begin writing concise and cohesive artist statements that can be adjusted for different purposes. How to write an artist bio and resume will also be covered in this two-hour program facilitated by LARAC staff.
After reviewing examples of well written artist statements, participants will begin to draft their artist statements in their own voice, developing the format and structure and enhancing with descriptive language, helping to define why and what they are creating. We will also look at examples of artist bios and discuss what makes a strong bio. How to format artists resumes will also be briefly covered. Up to 8 participants.

Artists are invited to bring in a couple of pieces of their work, either completed or in process, to be constructively critiqued by their peers in a supportive, encouraging environment. Peer art critiques help bring different perspectives to an artist’s work, enhancing understanding of where a piece or series may be going, what might be working well or what might need a little more work.
This event is free and open to all artists and art enthusiasts. Due to time constraints, there is only room for a maximum of 12 active participants in the peer art critique, so please register in advance either by email to programs@larac.org or call 518-798-1144 x2. Others are welcome to come to the event to observe.

Make Your Own Tarot Cards; Collage Workshop with Ellen Santasiero
Tarot cards can help us tap into our inner wisdom to navigate both practical and spiritual challenges. In this workshop, participants learn how Tarot inspires people to set positive intentions for their life. They then begin to make their own cards in collage using magazine images (provided). Instructor will demonstrate how to create compelling compositions. Workshop ends with optional sharing and tips for creating the rest of the cards. All materials provided; for all artistic abilities.

Program: Group Art Critique with Jenny Hutchinson
Participating artists may bring in one piece of artwork, either completed or in process, to be constructively critiqued by exhibiting artist Jenny Hutchinson and discussed among the other attending artists. Each artist will receive time for individualized feedback and group discussion. Jenny Hutchinson has actively engaged in and facilitated art critiques throughout her professional career as both an artist and educator. She feels that having access to critique and the expertise of others has been an incredible and essential tool of her evolution as an artist. In turn, providing information and tools for others to develop and enhance their work is something she is very passionate about as an educator and artist.

Learn and become more comfortable with painting in watercolor. Participants will practice watercolor techniques to learn some of the magic of the medium, then will apply these techniques in creating their own watercolor landscape inspired by the natural beauty of our region. Watercolor artist Diane Swanson will work with each artist through the creative process, with tips on how to handle composition, color and brushwork. This workshop is for all artistic abilities and all materials will be provided.

Program: Artist Conversation with Susan Hoffer
In this informative artist development program, artist Susan Hoffer will share her experiences applying to galleries, juried shows and opportunities, artist residencies and grants in an informal conversation with LARAC staff and attendees, followed by a Q & A session. This program is ideal for artists who are interested in learning about what might be the next steps for their careers and art practice.

Designer Jumbo Potholder Weaving with Bonnie Coulter
Bonnie Coulter leads participants in this fun workshop weaving an 8”x8” Jumbo potholder. Participants choose the design and select from a wonderful collection of 100% cotton loop colors. Each potholder is unique and personal, and finished with a wooden loop, and each participant receives a surprise thank you gift from the instructor. All materials supplied and dessert is included!

All About Gouache Painting with Eden Compton
Join us to learn all about Gouache, in this 2 hour workshop taught by well-known painter Eden Compton. It's a super fun water based medium that is easy to use, clean up and transport. Gouache is opaque watercolor and can be used in a variety of ways to create rich and vibrant paintings. It quickly becomes addictive! There are a few tricks and tips that will make learning this fun medium a bit easier and quicker than trying to learn on your own. Topics covered will be types of gouache, color mixing, brush handling, paper and supports and suggestions for putting together a good gouache kit for plein air. Demos and one on one instruction will help take your gouache practice to a new level. Paper, brushes, palettes and basic sets of gouache will be available but it is recommended to purchase the Japanese Jelly Gouache from Amazon if you think you will want to continue painting with gouache after the workshop.
